Assistant Professor, Public Health

School of Community Health Sciences, Counseling & Counseling Psychology

Fall 2024

POSITION: The Public Health Program within Oklahoma State University's College of Education and Human Sciences is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the main campus in Stillwater starting August 2024. The successful applicant will join a collaborative team of faculty who work with and mentor our undergraduate students and graduate students across three degree programs (BS, MS, and PhD). We are interested in scholars who have experience and interest in working with interdisciplinary teams of scholars and public health professionals on projects to improve the health of underserved populations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach undergraduate courses in Public Health that may include: Health Behavior Theory, Substance Use and Public Health, Health and Sexuality, and Program Design.

• Graduate course load may include: Philosophical Foundations in Public Health, Health Behavior Theory and Practice, Designing Public Health Programs, Implementation & Evaluation of Public Health Programs, Environmental Health, and Cultural Issues in Health.

• Successful candidates will conduct a program of research and publication in the area of Community Health Sciences or Public Health; guide graduate research in areas of expertise; seek external grants and contracts; provide service in the School, College, University and Community; and participate actively in professional organizations.

• Other duties may be assigned by the School Head.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Earned Doctorate in Community Health, Health Education, Health Promotion, Public Health or related area;

• Ability to teach in a higher education setting;

• Evidence of research or other scholarly activity;

• Evidence of involvement in professional service.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrated research agenda that integrates into and complements the current research being done at OSU (physical activity and exercise, disabilities, health literacy, alcohol consumption and risk-taking behavior, and sexual health);

• Demonstrated ability to seek external funds;

• Ability to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in diverse academic programs;

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills which promote collaboration within the discipline and across campus.

We hope for a candidate whose scholarship would have a strong health behavior methodology that clearly translates to the community. Ideally, this complementary research would focus on some programmatic areas of need that include: research methodology, the aging/elderly population, health communication, child/adolescent health, or community health interventions.
