Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Medical Assistant for the Clinical Practice Locations at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Medical Services Assistant performs routine clinical tasks and related administrative tasks as assigned to support effective and efficient office operations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Creates and maintains health record information, files and organizes as needed.
Communicates with insurance providers and handles pre-authorizations and certifications as necessary.
Communicates with patients and other providers per the instruction of the overseeing physician or health practitioner.
Performs clinical tasks such as blood draws, EKGs, hearing and vision screens, urinalysis, and blood glucose testing.
Prepares rooms, arranges instruments and equipment, and ensures a neat and sanitary environment.
Rooms patients, verifies patient information, confirms purpose of visit, obtains and records vitals and updates medical history.
Supports practice needs with clerical tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, collecting co-pays, preparing lab requests.
Requirements
Certifications/Licenses
Meets the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners definition of a “certified medical assistant” as outlined in NJAC 13:35-6.4(a)2.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish); completion of medical interpreter training course.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands: Position requires standing, walking, sitting, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel, talk and hear 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment: Moderate noise environment with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste.
Special Conditions
The ability to function in a team environment is required. Able to travel to provide coverage at “off-site” practices as needed.
